The WSNLA Leadership Awards are a peer-to-peer recognition program. Nursery and landscape professionals, businesses and programs are nominated throughout the year. Nominations are reviewed and selected by the WSNLA Executive Committee in November. All award recipients are honored at the Northwest Green Industry Conference held in January of each year.
In the tradition of Jerry Rosso, this award is given to a member who has demonstrated consistent commitment and involvement over the long term.
In 2009, Kirsten joined the WSNLA community as a member business and as a Certified Professional Horticulturist. Since then, she has continuously volunteered her time in a variety of areas working to protect, promote and educate our horticulture industry. Kirsten has served on the WSNLA Board of Directors as the Design Caucus Chair, and currently as Seattle Chapter President.
In 2014, she was the co- garden lead for the award-winning WSNLA & WALP garden at the NW Flower & Garden Show. This was no small feat, she gave countless hours to this effort and she also led an impressive volunteer effort that spanned two organizations. In 2015, she was honored as Member of the Year. Her passion for this industry outreach effort has not stopped. Every year since, she continues to provide support and mentorship to the WSNLA design team throughout the year and during the show.
In 2016, Kirsten received the Environmental Excellence Award for her participation with the Washington Tree Recovery Campaign, and effort spearheaded by Megan Pulkkinen, that brought together WSNLA, the Arbor Day Foundation and local conservation districts to help homeowner replant their wildfire impacted land. That same year she was awarded with the Cultivating Community award for her role as Seattle Chapter President.
If that is not enough, Kirsten also serves as the WSNLA representative on the Urban & Community Forestry Council, where her involvement has provided an opportunity for the Forestry and nursery industry to be better connected. And, just last year she received the President’s Award because of her ongoing commitment to WSNLA and our industry.
Kirsten is a true example of consistent involvement over the longterm. For that, she is being honored with the Jerry Rosso Involvement Award.
