Before there were gardens and flowers and veggies. Before landscape design and school and family. Before Duvall, Peace Corps and the wheat farm. My earliest memories were of horses, farms and animals.
As a toddler, I was told that I would beg my Dad to carry me, rain or shine, to feed the horses and let me sit on them. Of course, sitting wasn’t enough and I soon begged him to take me for a ride. We would ride and train and care for horse after horse from colt onward and pampered them through retirement to the end of their lives. I am grateful that we were able to raise our children with horses as not only a chore but a relationship; both pieces giving them valuable life lessons.
After the last one passed at the age of 32 and having her for over 30 years of my life, needless to say, my soul yearned for the chores and the relationship and so I began volunteering at Save a Forgotten Equine (SAFE) in January of 2021. SAFE has been an amazing experience for me each Friday morning and continues to be the highlight of my work – life balance. Not only is it an inspirational non-profit but their dedicated and responsible work gives hope to a better futures for many, many horses.
For this reason, I would ask that you take this opportunity to learn more about the great work that SAFE does and attend the upcoming auction or donate via the website.
