QUICK! Go see the amazing, bloomerific dahlias before they are finished!
NOW is your last chance to be dazzled by this late season bloomer and take away ideas for your landscape for next year. This opportunity will be at its peak through mid-October at Volunteer Park in Seattle at 1247 15th Ave East, Seattle WA or at the Bellevue Botanical Garden at 12001 Main Street, Bellevue WA. There are about 250 different varieties of dahlias to enjoy!
The lovely folks at the Puget Sound Dahlia Association plant, maintain and dig these for winter storage each year since 1984. Should you be inspired to add dahlias to your landscape (which I highly recommend!), the Puget Sound Dahlia Association also hosts tuber sales each year and is a fun group to join and get to know better! Invite a couple of friends to join you on this visual treat and be sure to also take your pen/paper and camera to record your favorites and celebrate this end of season hurrah.
And little tidbit here – did you know that the dahlia is Seattle’s official flower? Thanks to seattle.gov, “Ordinance 32137, approved November 19, 1913, established the dahlia as the City’s official flower and requested that the Park Board of the City plant and cultivate the flower in suitable quantities to make effective displays in the City parks.”
