Being a Master Pruner and certified by Plant Amnesty has been a source of pure enjoyment in my working world. Not only were the classes a ton of fun but also super interesting both from my botanical understanding but also affirmed my innate knowledge of plant health. The reason that it isn’t advertised that I assist with Specialty Pruning is the simple reason that I added it to the Gardens ALIVE Design offerings just to get a bit more healthy outside time in landscapes. I’m hopeful that you can learn more about the value of proper pruning techniques and embrace landscapes that aren’t carved into foreign shapes like balls, boxes and spirals – written like a true Plant Amnestian!
From the Plant Amnesty website:
PlantAmnesty was founded in 1987 to “stop the senseless torture and mutilation of trees and shrubs.” The nonprofit group uses a unique blend of humor and controversy to raise public awareness of “Crimes Against Nature” committed in our own backyards. PlantAmnesty vows to end Crimes Against Nature After alerting the public to this problem, our volunteers provide readily accessible and accurate information, materials and services. PlantAmnesty’s solutions to plant abuse and neglect include garden renovation workshops, classes, videos, a referral service and volunteer pruning and tree projects throughout the community.
PlantAmnesty has more than 1000 members in 31 states and four countries. We are part of a growing movement to lead society out of the dark ages of landscape care.
We have a sense of humor and a mission. For our work on pruning reform, we have won several awards including three Gold Leaf Awards from the International Society of Arboriculture, the Arbor Day Foundation’s Education Award, and Washington State’s Urban Forest Stewardship Award.
